It looks like Meghan Markle is not the only royal who is bringing changes and diversity to the usually traditionalistic family. We have learned that this summer, one of Queen Elizabeth’s cousins on her husband Prince Phillip’s side, Lord Ivar Mountbatten is set to marry his boyfriend, James Coyle.
This event is definitely making history as it is the very first gay wedding of a British royal.
The news follows the union between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the first bi-racial woman to enter the blue-blooded family.
Ivar came out of the closet back in 2016 revealing that he was dating his partner, James Coyle.
He was the first member of the royal family to open up about his bisexuality.
The man was actually married to a woman named Penny before, and the two have three daughters together.
He did not hide his attraction towards men from her, telling Penny he was bisexual ahead of their engagement.
Penny told The Daily Mail yesterday that she is very happy for her former husband and will even be giving him away to James on his wedding day.
‘It was the girls’ idea. It makes me feel quite emotional. I am really very touched,’ she mentioned.
The same publication confirmed that James’ extended family members have already given them their blessing
‘Sophie and Edward know about our plans and are really excited for us,’ Ivar said about his old friend and Queen Elizabeth’s youngest child, Prince Edward and his wife.
He went on: ‘Sadly they cannot come to the ceremony. Their diaries are planned months in advance, and they are not around, but they adore James. Everyone adores him.’
Ivar said that the ceremony is going to be intimate with no more than 120 guests in attendance.
‘For me, what is interesting is I do not need to get married because I have been there, done that and have my wonderful children; but I am pushing it because I think it is important for him. James has not had the stable life I have. I want to be able to give you that,’ he concluded while turning to his partner. Aww!!!
Congratulations to the happy couple!
