Queen Elizabeth has reportedly become fast friends with her new granddaughter-in-law, Meghan Markle. And when Her Majesty appeared at the recent Royal Ascot horse race, she was happy to have the Duchess of Sussex by her side. Insiders say that the two women have become close, and the Queen believes Markle is “the future of the monarchy.” And when it comes to the rivalry between Prince Harry’s new wife and the future Queen Consort, Kate Middleton, Queen Elizabeth is taking Markle’s side.
According to Life & Style, Markle and Middleton have a tense relationship because Middleton is out of the spotlight while on maternity leave after giving birth to her third child, Prince Louis, and Markle is stealing the show. Now, the Queen is choosing sides in the rivalry – and this is making Middleton bitter.
“She’s beginning to feel more and more shoved out now that Meghan’s in the picture,” says an insider. “[Middleton] isn’t as close to the queen as Meghan is now.”
Even though Middleton has been in the family for seven years, Queen Elizabeth isn’t attempting to hide her preference for Markle. She invited the former Suits actress to the family’s Christmas celebration even though she had yet to marry Prince Harry, and less than a month after the wedding, Markle joined Her Majesty for a solo trip to Chester, England.
Middleton had to wait until she married Prince William before getting her Christmas invite, and she had to wait almost a year after her wedding for her first solo trip with the Queen.
Sources say that Middleton has a formal relationship with the monarch and is always “reserved and stiff” in her presence. But Markle is always herself, and the Queen finds her warm personality, sense of humor, and intelligence refreshing.
In addition to their solo trip and Markle’s appearance with the Elizabeth at the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards at Buckingham Palace, they also spend time together behind the scenes. The Duchess of Sussex has afternoon tea with the Queen and the women gossip about everything from Markle’s charity work to her acting career.
The monarch is also impressed that Markle was able to tame her wild grandson and is proud of how the 36-year-old threw herself into Royal life “without any complaints.”
As for the feud between Markle and Middleton, the former actress is happy to have the Queen on her side, and one expert claims that she “out-royaled” Middleton even before she married Harry.
Body language expert Judi James says that at Middleton and Markle’s first public appearance together back in February at the Royal Foundation Forum, Meghan Markle crossed her legs in a demure style at the ankle, while Kate Middleton used a “more contemporary leg cross.”
