The woman discussed the singer’s addiction to prescription drugs and his eventual overdose. In a brand new documentary titled Elvis Presley: The Searcher, the legend’s widow, Priscilla Presley opened up about his last few days and revealed whether or not they suspected he would die.
‘It was difficult for all of us, we certainly did not see it coming. But we definitely saw the journey he was taking. People go, well, ‘Why didn’t anyone do anything?’ Well, that is not true. People in the inner group did, but you didn’t tell Elvis Presley what to do. You didn’t. I mean, you would be out of there faster than a scratched cat. They’d try and no way. He knew what he was doing,’ Priscilla explained.
She went on to say that his deadly addiction started while he was serving the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
‘They gave them to soldiers over there to keep them awake. He was on guard at the time. He had maneuvers he had to do late at night, so the pills were given to the soldiers, and that is how he started. And if you take a sleeping pill, you have to do something to get yourself awake… He was in unchartered territory, and he did this and tried to do this alone.’
As fans undoubtedly know, Elvis Presley passed away at his home, after having a heart attack caused by the pills on August 16, 1977. He was only 42 years old!
The documentary – Elvis Presley: The Searcher is set to premiere on April 14 on HBO. Are you planning on tuning in?
