Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting married on the 19th of May, and cultural enthusiasts in addition to just regular fans of fairy tales are beyond excited. However, there have been noticeable hiccups in the couple’s familial environment.
According to a report from BET.com, not only did Meghan Markle receive racist hatemail describing her as a “thug from the ghetto,” as well as the Prince’s family members wearing a racist brooch, one of Harry’s cousins has an interesting choice of pet names.
According to new reports, Princess Michael of Kent has two animals in her possession which have insulting and possibly racist monikers.
Vanity Fair reports that Aatish Tasser, an ex-boyfriend of one of Kent’s daughters, claimed the Princess has two black sheep named after the tennis players of African descent, Venus and Serena.
According to the outlet, with their usual pretentious choice of language, Princess Michael “invited trouble out of what felt like a desire to shock: her pair of black sheep in Gloucestershire were named Venus and Serena.”
Among Princess Michael of Kent’s fabulously versatile collection of jewelry is this diamond and star sapphire brooch with matching earrings. The history of these pieces is unknown and she is the only royal lady I have seen wearing them. Princess Michael loves to play around with her jewelry and use it in various ways. She uses the brooch also as the center of a pearl choker and as a bracelet clasp. The star sapphires are unique in the British Royal Collection and are beautiful pieces!
And while BET.com, for instance, is perfectly convinced that the names of the sheep are because of their color, perhaps the princess is just a fan of the tennis players?
As for the thoughts of social media, one person wrote, “personally, I just think she likes the two women and decided to name her pets after them. I don’t think the color really plays into it.”
However, one person on the other side of the fence in the court of public opinion explained, “Yeah, that’s pretty inappropriate to name your animals after tennis players like that. The fact that they’re all black in color makes it way, way worse.”
