Ever since Prince’s passing, his family members have been fighting each other for the estate and you can imagine how complicated the conflict of interests became. It seems, however, that they managed to take a break from all that quarreling and put their differences aside for at least one night for the sake of the legendary singer’s memory.
Prince’s family was present at the much awaited 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday and his sister even stepped on stage to commemorate and pay homage to her late brother. This public appearance is the first time since the singer’s death that the family looked civil around each other. They managed to get over their greed for Prince’s property and for one night came together to pay tribute to one of the most iconic artist in the music industry.
As you probably already know, after Prince died earlier this year, his siblings, including sister Tyka Nelson, have been fighting over the contents of the singer’s property.
According to TMZ, Tyka Nelson is also allegedly the one who organized the awkward trip to the much anticipated award show for the entire family in order to honor their brother and cancel their feud at least temporarily.
Prince won the Best Soundtrack award for ‘Purple Rain’ postmortem and his sister was also the one who accepted the award, giving a very emotional speech:
“Prince defied the odds. A black teen in Minneapolis with a goal to electrify the world, he had the courage to be different. With his vision and God given talent, he is still one of the world’s most respected and loved artists. What he told me was that he wanted to be known as the world’s most prolific songwriter. With 984 titles to his credit and counting he has done just that. In the words of Prince, ‘With love, honor, and respect for every living thing in the universe separation ceases and we all become one being singing one song.’ On behalf of Prince, our wonderful friend, teacher, and brother, I humbly accept this award.”
She then named all of her other siblings and addressed her late brother, “We’ll keep this for you at Paisley Park until we see you again. This is for you.”
