Residents of the United Kingdom have officially weighed in, and they want Prince William to be the next King of England.
Queen Elizabeth is 91-years-old, so it makes sense that the palace is preparing for Prince Charles’ inevitable accession to the British throne, but many citizens of the U.K. would rather see the 69-year-old step aside and let his son Prince William and his very popular wife, Kate Middleton take the throne. With public opinion on his side, will the Duke of Cambridge become the next King of England?
According to the Huffington Post, Prince Charles faces unprecedented challenges while he awaits the crown. His mother has been the monarch for 65 years – the longest reign in history –and he has been eagerly waiting to take her job for a while. He reportedly asked friends 20 years ago why she hasn’t abdicated yet.
But, when he does become King, it will surely be a tumultuous event because he doesn’t have support from the public.

A recent poll by The Sun showed that 51 percent of those surveyed want the crown to go straight to Prince William, while a poll at The Daily Express revealed that the majority of Brits do not want Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to be queen, but instead princess consort.
Some royal commentators believe the most recent poll results are just a reflection of the 20th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana, and to sample 2,000 people out of 64 million is “nonsense.”
The polls may be inaccurate, but they do give a sense that the public isn’t completely behind the idea of Charles being King, and it’s not just those in Britain.
There is a possibility that once Charles takes the throne, it could push Australia towards becoming an independent republic. The country rejected that proposal 20 years ago, but many believe that was because of their citizens’ love of Elizabeth, but now many are ready for their head of state to be an Australian.
The Daily Star reports that when Charles does become King, he will be the oldest person ever to take over the throne. He has already taken on some duties from his mother, and he is ready to be England’s newest monarch. There is absolutely no indication he will step aside for Prince William, and instead will serve right until the end, just like his mother.
