Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander recently had the chance to talk with Prince William during his tour of Sweden and Norway, and it turns out the two have a few things in common. Vikander spoke with Swedish news outlet The Local, and she revealed that she met the future King at a black-tie dinner in Stockholm, and the two had the chance to talk about the hit Netflix show, The Crown. But, that wasn’t the only show that the actress and Prince bonded over.
The interviewer asked the 29-year-old what she and the Duke of Cambridge discussed during their meeting, and she said their favorite TV shows were the first thing they talked about.
“Well, I’ve seen The Crown! It was actually the first thing my friend and I started talking about with William,” said Vikander.
The first two seasons of the popular Netflix series have focused on the early years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign and has documented her tumultuous relationship with Prince Philip.
It even implied that he cheated on his wife at the beginning of their marriage. Still, it seems to be a hit with the royal family.
The Duke of Cambridge has met inspirational award winners who have turned their lives around with the help of @centrepointuk – a charity dedicated to helping homeless young people. All the winners were once homeless, but have made significant strides towards independence, through work, study or apprenticeships.
Queen Elizabeth herself has reportedly watched the show, and, Princess Eugenie, Prince Edward, and Sophie count themselves among the drama’s many fans. A royal source says that it has been a longstanding tradition for the family to drive to Windsor Castle on the weekend to join the Queen in watching a TV show or a movie.
They have a Netflix account, and her family has urged her to watch The Crown with them.
The monarch did like the show, but she felt producers heavily dramatized some depictions of events. However, the music is wonderful, the story is beautiful, and she was very proud to watch it.
There is one member of the family who isn’t a fan. Matt Smith, who portrayed Prince Philip in seasons one and two, recently revealed that when someone asked the Duke of Edinburgh if he had seen the show, he replied, “Don’t be ridiculous.”
Vikander was lucky enough to sit next to William during dinner, and she revealed that he was also a fan of Game of Thrones.
Last summer, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got the chance to meet German actor Tom Wlaschiha – who plays Jaqen H’ghar – and they tried to get some inside info on the popular HBO show, but he wouldn’t share any spoilers.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have said that, instead of using HBO Go, they enjoy watching their box sets of the show.
