Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s matchmaker has remained a secret — until now. Harry and Markle just sat down for their first interview together and revealed that their romance was setup by a mutual friend in 2016.
Although the couple did not share the identity of the matchmaker, an inside source revealed that one of Harry’s childhood friends played the role of Cupid.
A source close to Harry and Markle told E! that Violet von Westenholz introduced Harry and Markle. Harry grew up with Westenholz, whose dad has close ties to Prince Charles.
The two families tried to hook Harry up with Westenholz’s little sister, Victoria, though that eventually fell through. The source says that Harry turned to Westenholz for help finding a mate and she recommended that he meet Markle.
Markle and Westenholz met through the latter’s work in the P.R. department of Ralph Lauren. The two developed a close friendship, and it didn’t take long before Markle was engrossed in the social scene in London.
It was during this time that Westenholz got the idea to pair Markle and Harry, and by the looks of their romance, she was spot on as a matchmaker.
In their joint interview, Markle recalled her first date with Harry in 2016. Markle revealed that she didn’t know anything about her date and wasn’t knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the Royal Family. The only question she asked Westenholz was whether or not her blind date was a nice guy.
For Harry, he also didn’t know much about Markle. But when he first met her he immediately knew that he needed to step things up a notch. Fortunately, the two immediately hit things off and the rest is history.
Westenholz has not confirmed the reports that she was Harry and Markle’s matchmaker. Other likely candidates include the Suits star’s bestie, Jessica Mulroney, Misha Nonoo, and Markus Anderson.
