Donald Trump promised for months that he is going to “Make America Great Again.” The time for talking is over, and on Friday, things became real and official. A television star with a brash personality is the 45th U.S. president. Supporters are cheerful, and critics are scared as he vowed to put America First. The concept is appealing although no one really knows what it means at this point. In the shortest inaugural address in 40 years, the 70-year-old businessman from New York stated that he will be the people’s president.
America has not been in better shape in a long while, but the new president is promising to shake things up in a dramatic fashion because a lot of people feel neglected. He said: “I will fight for you with every breath in my body. And I will never, ever let you down.” He later added: “Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration on foreign affairs, will be made to protect American workers and American families.”
Protesters all over the country are not buying the “America First” mantra, for them, Mr. Trump will take the country in the wrong direction and erase most of the progress that was made in the past eight years.
Some political experts hope that all of this is just public posturing and that the business mogul will govern as a pragmatist cutting deals left and right to push the country forward. Others think that Trump is just a puppet and that people like Vice President Mike Pence, House Speaker Paul Ryan, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will be running the show behind closed doors.
At this point, no one really knows, and it is all speculation. Trump was able to get elected by being all things to all people, but now, he will be forced to star being his real self.
