A 63-year-old crew member passed away in Brooklyn, New York, this Monday after he was hit by an SUV, effectively shutting down filming for the sixth season of the hit TV series, Power, for the time being.
NYC officer, Martin Brown Lee, claimed that Pedro Jimenez – a worker from the Bronx – was putting traffic cones in the lane not long after 4:00 am. Driven by a co-worker, a 2006 Ford Explorer struck Pedro while they were on Douglas Street.
Filming hadn’t started around that time. The 64-year-old driver had to be taken to the Brooklyn Hospital, where he was subsequently deemed dead.
According to USA Today, Brown Lee said to reporters that it wasn’t clear as to how the vehicle moved or lost control. Currently, the NYPD’s traffic investigation squad is looking into the incident.
In a statement, the president of the premium cable network apologized for the loss of Mr. Jimenez.
Ever since the series began in 2014, Pedro has been on board. Starring 50 Cent among other performers, Power is a crime drama revolving around James St. Patrick, portrayed by Omari Hardwick.
He wants to get out of the drug dealing business, and instead, get his hand’s in nightclubs and other entertainment venues. In the meantime, he’s fighting off the police, his deteriorating marriage, as well as rival drug dealers like Kanan Stark – played by 50 Cent.
Currently, Power is one of Starz most viewed programs. Created by Courtney A. Kemp, it’s one of the “underdogs” of currently popular TV programming. In the past, Courtney, as well as 50 Cent, has criticized the way in which the network allegedly refuses to adequately market it.
Putting that aside, it’s unfortunate that deaths such as these in series are not that uncommon. A film company involved with AMC’s The Walking Dead was fined following a government investigation after the death of a stuntman in 2017.
John Bernecker, 33, passed away when he fell approximately 20 feet outside of Atlanta in July 2017. A stuntwoman involved with the latest Deadpool movie died in a crash as well after she lost control of the bike and flew through a glass window.
