Today, Portia de Rossi was a guest on her wife, Ellen DeGeneres’ show and she opened up about her career, more precisely, why she’s given up acting. Here’s what she had to say!
‘I was approaching 45, aging out,’ she joked.
‘I was just kind of wondering if there was something I could tackle now that I have never done before that would be really wonderful and different. I kind of knew what acting would look like for me for the next 10 or 20 years, so I decided to quit and start a business,’ she added.
As fans may know, Portia has started General Public instead of acting, an art curation, and publishing company which employs some special technology to print the artwork.
‘I see a lot of women in their mid-forties kind of thinking about the next stage of their lives, and I just did not want to regret not trying something,’ the woman explained.
However, even after she decided to step out of Hollywood, Portia still ended up shooting for season five of Arrested Development.
‘I made this decision about 18 months ago, Shonda Rhimes wrote me off Scandal, it was fine. I called Mitch Hurwitz, who is the creator of Arrested Development, and I said, ‘If there’s a season five I won’t be doing it because I quit acting.’ And he seemed understanding and totally got it, we had a great conversation … and then he wrote me into five episodes. I do not know how it happened, but yes, I’m on season five,’ she dished about the show set to hit Netflix on May 29.
