Erykah Badu has started a lot of controversy with her recent claims, and people are raging over her statement on social media. The woman, not only claimed she is grateful for what Bill Cosby did for the world but even went as far as to claim that she sees good even in Hitler!
It was in a brand new interview for Vulture that was published this morning that Badu defended Cosby and…Hitler? Really?
Now, people are slamming her all over Twitter!
We understand, the intention was to argue that humans have both good and bad in them and that she chooses to see the good over the bad, but Hitler?
One of the questions in the interview was about separating the artists as social beings from their art – is it possible?
‘I’d have to really think about it and know the facts in each of those situations before I made my judgment. Because I love Bill Cosby, and I love what he has done for the world. But if he is sick, why would I be angry with him? The people who got hurt, I feel really bad for them. I want them to feel better, as well. But sick people do evil things; hurt people hurt people.’
To be noted that Bill Cosby has been at the center of a huge rape scandal.
He was accused by no less than 50 women of either drugging and raping them, sexual battery and even child sexual abuse.
With that in mind, a lot of people would still think he is not worthy of appreciating regardless of what positive impact Cosby may have had on people throughout his career.
On screen, he may have inspired many, but we have to agree that behind the scenes – which is the real life – he was despicable.
But as if that was not bad enough, Badu went on to say that: ‘I am a humanist. I see good in everybody. I saw something good in Hitler too. Hitler was a wonderful painter. I’d never even want a group of white men who believe the Confederate flag is worth saving to feel bad. That is not how I operate.’
Here are some of the reactions of social media users:
‘We all know where her politics are with regards to R.Kelly, and how girls need longer skirts. An apologist for rape culture.’
‘To be honest, I was done trusting Erykah Badu when she said how girls should wear long skirts to school because it is ‘natural’ for grown a** men to be attracted to CHILDREN.’
‘When you say you can see good in Hitler, just remember something – in your mind, that might seem like a smart and nuanced point. To Holocaust survivors and their ancestors, it is a kick in the teeth and an unnecessarily offensive thing to say.’
Are you just as outraged by Erykah Badu’s interview as these people and many others like them who took Twitter by storm to slam her?
