Ryan Murphy’s new show, The Assassination Of Gianni Versace, is eagerly awaited by many fans mostly due to Ryan’s exceptional record of quality television. On the new show, he has performers like Edgar Ramirez, Ricky Martin, as well as Penélope Cruz to portray the production’s integral characters.
When she sat down along with Gwyneth Paltrow for a discussion with Interview Magazine, Cruz opened up about the question of aging, as well as her role as Donatella Versace – Gianni’s sister who took over the head-of-design after he passed away.
She explained that it took a lot of work to master Donatella’s Italian accent; the actress went so far as to hire a “dialogue coach” to learn how she talked.
According to Cruz, she didn’t want to do a mere imitation but rather to encapsulate the whole of her character and individuality through her tonality and inflection.
As for the topic of “aging” in Hollywood, Penélope revealed that when she first started to come up as an actress in the entertainment hub of North America, she often lied about her date of birth to get more fulfilling roles.
She stated ever since the beginning; journalists had asked her if she’s afraid of aging. Penélope responded, “that is such a crazy question for a 22-year-old girl, or for that matter, for a 42-year-old.”
According to the star of Vanilla Sky, she combats the question by refusing to answer it; she doesn’t even validate it with a response. She continued, vehemently we might add, “What the f***? I’m not going to give you even two minutes to honor your question.” Penélope said after she welcomed her daughter into the world, she realized it was time for women to stand up and refuse to answer such questions.
