Fans love Outlander for its charming storytelling, amazing acting and gorgeous sets. But if we’re honest, a lot of the show’s success boils down to the chemistry between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe — and by that we’re talking about all those steamy sex scenes. With production for Season 4 currently underway, fans can’t help but wonder if they’ll see one of the hottest sex scenes from Diana Gabaldon’s series come to life.
According to ET Online, Season 4 of Outlander is based on Gabaldon’s book, Drums of Autumn, which is the fourth novel in her hit series. The season will explore how Jamie (Heughan) and Claire (Balfe) start new lives in America after being shipwrecked in the Season 3 finale.
Fans of the books can’t wait to see some of their favorite parts of Drums of Autumn play out on the small screen, including a steamy scene between the time traveling lovers on the banks of a humid river.
Will Outlander bring the heart-pounding river scene to life in Season 4?
Members of the cast and crew recently participated in a discussion panel in Los Angeles for the Television Academy. At the event, Heughan was asked about the river scene and whether or not it made it onto the script for Season 4. The actor teased that Jamie and Claire might go for a quick dip in a river, but he also tried to throw fans off the trail.
“No, we’ve not shot anything by a river, at all,” Heughan shared. “There may be stuff there, but it’s — I was going to say wet. There’s water involved, but it might not be a river, who knows?”
Balfe was also asked about the river scene. Unfortunately, the actress remained coy and simply told fans that it is not going to happen. Luckily, executive producer Maril Davis cleared things up a bit and explained how they try and include the most important interactions from each book, but they always throw in a twist. So, it sounds like we’re going to get the steamy riverside scene after all, but it might be slightly different than what happened in the book.
Production is currently underway for Season 4 of Outlander. The cast and crew are currently filming scenes in Scotland, where they have tried their best to make the countryside look like North Carolina. This has been challenging because it’s not exactly warm and humid in Scotland like it is in North Carolina.
In fact, it’s been pretty cold over the past few weeks in Scotland, which limits what kind of scenes the actors can shoot. As executive Ronald D. Moore explained, “You don’t want to be hanging out in the rivers in Scotland. Trust me.”
Filming for the new upcoming season of Outlander is expected to continue for a couple more months. The show is scheduled to return to Starz sometime this fall. In the meantime, producers might treat fans another Season 4 teaser trailer later this month.
April 17 marks the anniversary of last year’s Outlander teaser and producers might keep up the tradition with another April release.
