Sam Heughan is teasing fans about what Jamie and Claire Fraser will face in Season 4 of Outlander. With Jamie (Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) setting up new lives for themselves in the American colonies, Heughan revealed that the couple will be facing their greatest challenges yet — and they could find themselves in some serious danger before it’s over.
At the end of Season 3, Jamie and Claire found themselves shipwrecked and on the shores of the New World. In Season 4, fans will watch as Jamie and Claire establish themselves in a foreign land and eventually build a home in Fraser’s Ridge, North Carolina.
But their journey to building a new home base isn’t going to be easy. For Heughan, the new challenges are some of the toughest Jamie and Claire have had to face so far.

For starters, Jamie and Claire will have to navigate through tricky waters as they come face to face with Native Americans, British colonials, and like-minded people from Scotland. According to Express, Heughan teased that a familiar face will make things complicated and dangerous for him and Claire. Heughan didn’t reveal which character from his past will return this season, but it sounds like things could get dangerous for the Scotsman.
“America is a very new world and for him to find a place to settle and home is… it’s gonna take some time,” Heughan shared, adding that there will be “a few surprises as well.”
We already know that one of Jamie and Claire’s first stops will be at Aunt Jocasta’s (Marie Doyle Kennedy) plantation. Producers also revealed that this season’s main villain will be Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), who might prove to be even worse than Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), Jamie’s main nemesis the past three seasons.
Although Jamie and Claire have their work cut out in Season 4, the couple will experience a few high points. For starters, Jamie will finally meet with his daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), in what is probably the most anticipated reunion this season. Brianna will be traveling back in time to reunite with her parents and fans can’t wait to see her and Jamie finally meet.
This season is also the first time that Jamie and Claire can live their lives as a married couple out in the open. They might be facing a lot of challenges but at least they have each other.
Season 4 of Outlander will premiere on Starz this November.
