Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) is heading for trouble when Outlander returns for Season 4. Heughan recently teased that Jamie might be engaging in criminal activity with a few of this season’s new characters. Will he make it through the difficult times ahead?
Jamie is not exactly a stranger when it comes to dangerous situations. Last season, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) reunited with Jamie only to find that he was involved with a few shady people. Jamie eventually came clean about his illegal activities, which included smuggling, but not before it caused stress in their relationship.
The couple was then forced to leave Scotland after Jamie’s print shop was burned to the ground, all because of a few pamphlets he printed.
With the time-traveling couple setting up new lives in America next season, Heughan revealed that Jamie has not left his criminal ways behind him. According to Express, the Outlander star teased fans Jamie is the same old character we’ve come to love over the past three years, even if he and Claire are living in a new world.
“He’s matured a lot, but still at his center and in his heart, at his core, he’s still that slightly fiery Scot that we all love,” Heughan explained.
Heughan added that Jamie has become more of a family man in his older age, which should help his judgement. He also admitted that Jamie will have a difficult time adjusting to life in the American colonies.
While Jamie does his best to stay out of trouble, Heughan teased that a few twists will bring some old characters back to life. The actor did not say which characters will return next season, but it sounds like Jamie will have a hard time coping with their arrival.
While we wait to hear more about the new season, Heughan and Balfe recently did a virtual Q&A session for fans at New Jersey Con. The Outlander stars could not make the event in person due to their busy filming schedules (Heughan is filming a project in South Africa), but they did Skype in for a few quick questions.
While Heughan chatted about Jamie getting older and more mature, Balfe talked about some of the more challenging scenes she filmed in Season 4. The on-screen couple is expected to do a similar talk this weekend at Wizard World Chicago.
Season 4 of Outlander is set to air on Starz Nov. 4.
