Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) epic reunion in Season 3 of Outlander was everything fans hoped it would be. With the couple starting new lives for themselves in colonial America next season, Heughan recently dished a major spoiler about their future together – and it doesn’t sound good.
During an appearance on This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Heughan opened up about the struggles Jamie and Claire are going to face in America. The Outlander star explained how the season will follow the couple as they establish a new home in America prior to the revolutionary war. Although the pair will be together to face the new challenges, Heughan admitted that it won’t be easy.
“The course of true love never does run smoothly, it’s all fine for a while and then thrown into jeopardy,” he teased.
Heughan stopped short of saying what will come between Heughan and Jamie, but it definitely sounds like they will face some real challenges in America. According to Express, Heughan also revealed that the cast and crew are currently filming the Season 4 finale in Scotland.
Although the setting is in America next season, the majority of filming took place in and around Glasgow, which Heughan claims looks exactly like North Carolina.
While we wait for more spoilers, Starz just announced that Outlander will return for at least two more seasons. The president of the network just revealed that fans will see Jamie and Claire return for Season 5 and 6 of the hit fantasy drama.
Season 5 will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel, A Fiery Cross, while Season 6 will be adapted from A Breath of Snow and Ashes. This confirms that producers are adapting one book per season for the foreseeable future.
As fans will recall, executive producer Ronald D. Moore recently teased that future seasons could combine books or split them up.
Filming for Season 4 is almost a wrap, but the cast and crew will not immediately start working on Season 5. Balfe recently revealed that the cast will be given a much needed 7-month break after they finish Season 4, which means Season 5 probably won’t premiere until late 2019 or early 2020 at the latest.
This marks the first time the cast and crew have been given an extended break since the series began.
Season 4 of Outlander is scheduled to return to Starz in November.
