We always knew Claire and Jamie would have a difficult time establishing themselves in their new home — but images from the set of Season 4 of Outlander show that Claire is having a harder time than expected. Will Claire find happiness in America this season?
The photo features Claire (Caitriona Balfe) standing beside Jamie (Sam Heughan) while the two overlook River Run with the plantation’s owner, Jocasta Cameron (Maria Doyle Kennedy). In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Balfe explained how Claire has a hard time dealing with slavery on the plantation and that Jocasta cannot comprehend why.
Their differences in morality make it hard for the women to develop any sort of bond — which is why Claire looks so miserable in the photo.
In addition to the set photos, Outlander also teased fans with a new promotional trailer for Season 4, which is based on the 4th book in Diana Gabaldon’s hit series, titled “Drums of Autumn.”
Like the photos, the trailer makes it clear that Claire will have trouble adjusting to the realities of the New World, including slavery and how colonists deal with Native Americans. While Claire will have a lot to work through, she is not afraid to speak her mind.
The clip shows her telling a redcoat about the horrors of slavery and informing the man that it is not good.
Apart from Claire’s agony, the photos show how hard the cast and crew worked to make Scotland look like a plantation in the deep south. Based on the photos, set designer Jon Gary Steele did an amazing job transforming the Scottish countryside into something similar to North Carolina.
We cannot wait to see what else is in store for Claire and Jamie as their journey continues in America.
Season 4 of Outlander kicks off Nov. 4 on Starz.
