Outlander is here to stay. Starz just ordered two new seasons of the hit fantasy drama, extending the series through Season 6. With Season 4 currently in production in Scotland, the network also revealed that Outlander will return this November.
Outlander is one of the most popular shows on Starz and averages close to 6 million viewers every episode. The cast and crew are currently in Scotland filming the rest of Season 4 and Starz head Chris Albrecht just dished on what fans can expect to unfold in the coming two seasons.
Albrecht assured everyone that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will confront new challenges in America as they build a home in the New World.

The first season of Outlander ran 16 episodes while the last two have offered 13 apiece. Seasons 5 and 6, meanwhile, will be comprised of 12 episodes each. Season 5 will be an adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s book, The Fiery Cross, while Season 6 will tackle A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Executive producer Ronald D. Moore previously teased that future seasons could split books, but it sounds like they are sticking to the one book per season for now. Producers have not discussed any plot details for Season 5 and 6, and it is not clear when work on those seasons will begin.
In addition to the exciting news about Season 5 and 6, Starz also released new photos from the set of Season 4. The photos offer a first look at Jamie and Claire as they setup new lives for themselves in colonial America. The network has not released any plot details about the coming season, but it looks like Jamie and Claire are having no trouble at all establishing themselves in a new country.
Starz also released photos of Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin). Claire left Brianna last season to travel back in time and reunite with Jamie. This season, fans can expect Brianna to do the same and reunite with her parents. Her romance with Roger, of course, complicates things, so it will be interesting to see how the series handles her storyline.
Production for Outlander is expected to continue over the next few months. Fortunately, fans only have to wait until November before this year’s Droughtlander is officially over. Based on where the show is headed, it sounds like it will be well worth the wait.
