After the president slammed Oprah for supposedly being biased during her 60 Minutes segment, the TV personality made sure to tell everyone how that is not the case at all! According to the icon, she was balanced and very fair.
Today, Oprah stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and not surprisingly, their discussion just had to turn towards Donald Trump at some point.
‘Speaking of tequila, have you been drinking an extra amount since that Tweet the president put out?’ Ellen asked.
What she was referring to was the fact that following Oprah’s appearance on 60 Minutes on February 18, he took to social media to call her ‘very insecure.’
The segment included a panel discussion with an equal number of Trump voters and non-Trump voters and seeing how he didn’t receive much praise from either group, Trump just assumed that it was all biased and pre-planned to discredit him.
‘I woke up, and I just thought… ‘Oprah told Ellen shrugging.
She went on to elaborate: ‘And I do not like giving negativity power, so I just thought, what? What I really did was I went back and looked at the tape to see if there was a place that could be true. Did I feel like … it was slanted or biased. I went back and looked at every single tape, I called the producers. Because what actually happened was when you do 60 Minutes, you sit in a room amidst at least 7 other people who critique the piece before you air it before you do the introduction, and then they give you the critique.’
‘So, they critique every word and is fair – you have this panel of people looking at whether it was fair. And I had, the first time I saw it, I said there is something missing here from the conversation. When I asked the question of ‘do you think, do you care about what other people think about America?’ and they used only the Democratic side.’
‘And I said, I remembered this guy Matt had said, ‘No, we are the only people worrying what other countries think of us.’ And I said, ‘I think you should go back and put that in because it makes it more balanced.’ So, I was working hard to do the opposite of what I was hate-tweeted about so, it’s okay,’ Oprah explained.
