Bethany Joy Lenz, best known for her role as Haley James Scott, in teenage drama One Tree Hill will be guest starring in long-standing network drama’s Grey’s Anatomy.
No real details have been revealed about her role other than her character’s name: Jenny. She is taking on the role in a guest arc that will begin this season. In standard Shondaland fashion, there’s no other real information that has been released about the character. Will she be a new doctor? A patient?
This won’t be the first time Lenz is acting in a Shondaland show. She was previously cast in the pilot of The Catch, which has since been canceled. Since her several season reign on One Tree Hill, she has appeared in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Dexter, American Gothic, and Colony.
It’s unknown if this guest arc may turn into a more consistent and sustainable role for the actress. Recently, the show lost a cast member in Nathan Riggs, who briefly played a doctor and love interest of the title character Meredith Grey. A twist revealed that his wife, who was presumed dead, turned up alive. In the most recent episode, Riggs and his wife left Seattle to start their lives anew.
Shondaland is going through perpetual changes as they’ve recently revealed that a spinoff show will air that also takes place in Seattle. It will follow the lives of firefighters from a neighboring fire station. Grey’s alum Jason George will make his exit from Grey’s and will be an integral character on the still untitled spin-off. Other actors that have been snagged for the show include Alberto Frezza, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Miguel Sandoval, Grey Damon, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, and Barrett Doss.
Grey’s creator and television powerhouse Shonda Rhimes also made recent news when she signed a deal with Netflix to create and produce a whole new crop of television shows for the streaming service. However, the shows that currently make up the TGIT lineup are staying put, except for Scandal which is currently in its final season.
