Nicole Kidman has had quite the year. She’s been working almost nonstop and wanted to enjoy some holiday travel with her family. After spending Christmas in Australia, where the Academy Award-winning actress is from, she flew to New York City and then Canada.
In recent days, the east coast has been hit with one of the most severe snowstorms and cold temperatures that it has seen in years. Foot upon foot of snow has fallen causing some businesses and schools to shut down. Temperatures were in the negatives with excessive windchill being reported.
The weather has been bone chilling and miserable for so many during this winter season. Although even other places such as Florida and Texas are experiencing uncharacteristically low seasonal temperatures.
So it’s no surprise that the actress almost missed the AACTA awards altogether because she was snowed in. During the red carpet press line, she told a reporter “I almost didn’t make it!”
When Kidman arrived on the red carpet, not a hair was misplaced despite her saying that she’d literally just gotten into town two hours prior.
When asked about the success of hit show Big Little Lies, which is returning for a second season sometime in 2019, Kidman spoke about how excited and blessed she and the cast felt that the show was being acknowledged and honored in such a way.
The show has six Golden Globe nominations, and has done tremendously well at various awards shows that have recognized it. The actresses, including Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Laura Dern, will be reprising those roles soon enough with both Kidman and costar Reese Witherspoon at the helm of producing as well.
Despite the inclement and dicey weather, Kidman is thrilled she made it to Los Angeles just in time and can actively partake in the awards season hoopla that surrounds the show she’s so proudly a part of.
As someone who also speaks out about the sexual misconduct women often suffer, she’ll likely take part in the wearing black protest that so many women from across the industry have decided to unveil on the red carpet.
