Just one month after they went public with their courtship, Counting On star John David Duggar and his girlfriend Abbie Grace Burnett have announced that they are engaged to be married. But, while they have been courting, it looks like the couple has ignored Jim Bob’s strict rules.
Earlier this week, John David’s sister Jill posted a pic on Instagram that has fans talking. The photo was of the 27-year-old, her big brother, and his girlfriend outside of a Smoothie King, and it looked like the couple didn’t have a chaperone for their date.
“Ran into these two last night!” Jill wrote in the caption.
Since the mom-of-two didn’t mention any other siblings, and we couldn’t see anyone else in the pic, fans started to speculate that the couple was alone. And, as every Duggar fan knows, that is against courtship rules.
One fan asked where their chaperones were, while another questioned Jill’s wording in the caption. Since she wrote “these two,” people wanted to know if there was anyone else there, or if it was just John David and Abbie Grace.
Some thought that maybe Jill wasn’t being completely honest by saying that she “ran into” the couple, and instead she was the chaperone. But, it is usually the younger siblings who act as chaperones on the older kids’ dates.
As always, there were fans who defended the couple and asked why people couldn’t just be happy for them and leave them alone. After all, who really cares if they are following the courtship rules? John David is 28 and Abbie Grace is 26. They both have careers and lives of their own, so it is entirely possible that the rules don’t even apply to them.
John David and Abbie Grace knew of each other for years before he traveled to Oklahoma for a church event and the two “really got connected.” When they announced their courtship last month, she said that they fell in love quickly.
“One of the most amazing things about following Christ is being able to trust Him to direct your path and lead your life,” said the couple. “We are so thankful that He led us to one another.”
Now, less than a month after Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson said, “I do,” it’s time for the family to plan another wedding. And, considering how fast their relationship is moving, chances are John David Duggar and Abbie Grace Burnett will be exchanging vows very soon.
The new season of Counting On premieres Monday, July 30th on TLC.
