Desperate Housewives alum Eva Longoria has become a mom for the first time at the age of 43 after giving birth to her son Santiago Enrique this past week in Los Angeles. Longoria and her husband of two years, Jose “Pepe” Baston, 50, announced their son’s birth via a statement to Hola! USA and the couple said they were grateful for their “beautiful blessing.”
But two days after giving birth, Longoria told fans on Instagram that the arrival of her son has made her think about families who have to separate at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“In light of my son’s birth, I wanted to bring focus on the families that have been separated at the border. Having my son next to me, I cannot imagine him being taken from my arms. Families belong together which is why we must do what we can to reunite them,” wrote the actress in the caption of a pic of her and her new baby.
Hello world! I introduce to you Santiago Enrique Bastón. Thank you everyone for showering my baby boy with all your warm wishes! Special thanks to @usahola. In light of my son’s birth I wanted to bring focus on the families that have been separated at the border. Having my son next to me, I cannot imagine him being taken from my arms. Families belong together which is why we must do what we can to reunite them. That’s why I am supporting @raicestexas and @aclu_nationwide to help fund legal services for separated families (link in bio) #KeepFamiliesTogether
According to People Magazine, Longoria is also a supporter of the Time’s Up movement, and she has said that she plans on raising a feminist son. She explained that she is excited to have a boy because she believes the world “needs more good men.” And, she added that she will surround her son with strong, educated, and powerful women.
Longoria says it is important that Santiago has strong female role models in his life, so he knows how to support, applaud, and honor it.
The Overboard star married Baston, the president of Televisa – Latin America’s largest media company – in Mexico in May 2016. The couple started dating back in 2013 and got engaged in Dubai two years later. This is their first child together, but he has three children from another marriage.
So the day I’ve been dreading happened last night. Jinxy passed away in my arms at the vet. He had a stroke that he just couldn’t come back from. He was 15 years old (96 in dog years) and he filled those years with lots of love and laughter. He was my baby before this baby in my belly came along. I’m so sad but know that he’s out of his suffering. Anyone who knew me, knew Jinxy. He will be missed by many. I love you Jinxy 💔
Santiago’s arrival came just five days after Longoria lost her beloved 15-year-old dog Jinxy who died on June 14th after suffering a stroke. The dog was often by Longoria’s side and even posed with her on a magazine cover.
Longoria says that anyone who knows her knew Jinxy, and many people will miss him. After he died, the actress posted a photo gallery of the dog on social media, and she wrote in the caption that she loved him, and he was “her baby before this baby in my belly came along.”
The new mom also wasted no time getting Santiago into the World Cup spirit. She recently posted a new picture of her newborn son, rocking a mini No. 8 Mexico soccer jersey that reads “Soy Mexicano.”
Eva Longoria went on to reveal that her husband bought the tiny jersey months ago and has been eagerly waiting for him to be able to wear it.
