Netflix came out with a statement in response to the sexual assault allegations from Anthony Rapp against Kevin Spacey. Kevin – who stars in Netflix’s tremendously popular series, House of Cards – allegedly facilitated an “unwanted sexual advance” against actor Anthony Rapp in 1986.
In an affidavit released to Us Weekly, they wrote they are “deeply troubled” by the latest news regarding the misconduct concerning Kevin Spacey.
Additionally, they wrote that they are meeting with executives as well as cast and crew members to ensure they are “safe and supported.”
According to a report from Deadline, the sixth season will be its last; the production of the final season began earlier in the month.
According to the 46-year-old, Rapp, he said to BuzzFeed News that Spacey invited him to his apartment in New York City for a party in 1986 when they were both working in separate Broadway shows.
Rapp, who was 14-years-old at the time, claimed the then-26-year-old “laid down on top of him” in a bedroom and tried to “get with (him) sexually.”
After the allegations surfaced, Kevin said on his Twitter that he has a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor and is “beyond horrified” to hear the story.
Spacey says he “doesn’t remember the event” as it happened over thirty years ago. However, if he did do what Rapp claimed, then he “owes him the sincerest apology,” for what Spacey described as deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.
Since then, Spacey has come out as a gay man, which many people in the industry have assumed for several years. Many people took to social media to criticize the actor for coming out as gay at such a difficult time, as well as his choice of words, notably the idea that he will”choose” to live life as a gay man.
