NCIS star Pauley Perrette announced on Twitter last fall that she will be leaving the popular CBS drama after fifteen seasons, but now that the time has come for her last show, she is struggling with the decision. Could she be having second thoughts about putting the character of Abby Sciuto behind her?
According to In Touch Weekly, the decision was not easy for Perrette, and the reality of life after NCIS hasn’t hit her yet.
“I, like, usually cry in my car every single day when I drive to work,” she said. “And I usually cry on my way home at some point. And then I take a deep breath, and I go, ‘All right,’ you know? It makes me sad to imagine a world without Abby in it. It really makes me sad.”
Perrette added that Abby made science cool and attainable for young women. And, the character did more than encourage it. She made it cool, exciting, and fun.
I'm so worried about you guys for Tuesdays episode of the #GoodbyeAbby
It's sad, But I hope hope hope you will all watch. I Want the world to watch. I did my best work for you. And TONS of flashbacks. Everyone is there. Love you! Get everyone to watch please.

But just because Perrette won’t be playing Abby on TV anymore, it doesn’t mean she won’t be keeping her influence alive. The 49-year-old has set up a scholarship fund in honor of the character to help young women that want to pursue science, math, and forensics.
The character will be exiting at the end of the current season, but her fate is still a mystery. Several NCIS characters have died in the past, but CBS showrunners have said they are planning a “special send-off” for Perrette and her character, hinting that the forensic scientist will be leaving the show alive and well.
Perrette has played Abby since the show debuted back in 2003, and producers say that the character has inspired millions of fans around the world and they are appreciative of Perrette for portraying her.

The actress’ decision to leave the show was a personal one and had nothing to do with any kind of behind the scenes squabbling. She says that she believes in God and the universe so firmly that it just suddenly become obvious that now was the time for her to go. Perrette says she gave it a lot of thought and decided to make the announcement herself because she didn’t want it to be a shock to anyone.
As for what’s next, she says that it is all about God’s plan, and that’s what she believes and how she feels. She says she is just waiting and when God reveals it, she will know.
Pauley Perrette’s final appearance as Abby will be on the NCIS season finale, which airs Tuesday on CBS.
