Season 16 of NCIS is going to be a big one for Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Along with introducing more of Gibbs’ famous rules, the crime drama will be diving into the character’s past relationships, which means fans will meet a few of his former wives in the process.
In a recent interview, NCIS executive producer Frank Cardea opened up about Gibbs’ storyline this season and revealed Season 16 will feature more than one of his ex-wives. Cardea knows that fans get a kick out of exploring Gibbs’ past and the episodes that feature his former flames are always popular.

Cardea did not say which of his ex-wives will return to action, but it is possible that we’ll see Darby Stanchfield’s character now that she is done with Scandal.
According to Carter Matt, a few of Gibbs’ ex-wives are no longer alive, but they could appear in the form of flashbacks. There is also the chance that his former flames convince him that he needs to get moving in the romance department and settle down.
We already know that Gibbs will be getting closer to Sloane this season and she’s definitely girlfriend material. We don’t know if Gibbs and Sloane are a good match (she’s not necessarily his type), but it would make for entertaining television.

Even if Gibbs and Sloane do not get romantic, the two are expected to grow closer in Season 16. Sloane has always challenged Gibbs’ way of thinking and has managed to break down some of his defenses along the way.
Fans can expect more of the same this season, and it will be nice seeing them strengthening their bond, especially after everything that happened at the end of Season 15.
Season 16 of NCIS is set to premiere Sept. 25 on CBS.
