Mindy Kaling is on the cover of Shape magazine, and for the same publication, she also gave a lengthy interview during which she mostly talked about motherhood. As fans of the Ocean’s 8 actress know already, Mindy became a first-time mother in December, and she had daughter Katherine, who she likes to call Kit.
‘She is a really happy baby. When she was born, she was sort of skinny and anxious. I think she was like, Can this woman really take care of me? But during our many breastfeeding sessions, we have gotten to know each other, and she has learned to trust me over time.’
‘What is great for me is that my doctor told me that incessant chatter’s good for a baby, and I have lived my whole life waiting to have a captive audience,’ she joked.
‘So I spend days narrating to her. I am constantly doing voiceover for her, as I did in The Mindy Project. Honestly, I feel like her first words are going to be, ‘Just stop. Please!’’
But motherhood is not the only new thing in her life.
Mindy also moved into a brand new home around the time she had baby Kit.
‘I did not realize how tethered to my house I would be as a new mom. I had thought I could bring the baby with me everywhere. I also could not quite believe that every three hours I needed to be home to feed her.’
She explained that ‘I would go on these little jaunts out of the house, and they would feel like secret, illicit excursions. It was exciting, and it made my life seem sort of dramatic. What also helped was that I had just moved into my home, and it was fun to break it in. I would think, I should feed my daughter in our fancy new living room. And there I would sit with her, and it was like, Oh, this is really nice.’
