Mike Pence, the Vice President elect went to watch the famous Broadway musical ‘Hamilton’ and he ended up being booed by the crowd.
Pence and his wife decided to go attend the show but as soon as they went to their seats, they were booed and catcalled by the audience.
It is not a surprising turn of events considering Pence is openly anti-LGBT along other questionable views that he has and his decision to watch such a celebrated musical, not only for the wonderful script and performance, but also for having a very diverse cast, is unexpected, to say the least. He probably heard all the buzz around it and just wanted to check it out.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the main star of ‘Hamilton’ along with the rest of the cast felt like addressing the issue as well.
At the end of the performance, while Pence was trying to exit early, the cast of ‘Hamilton’ came out. Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in the musical, delivered a message to Pence with the desire for it to be heard by the President elect as well:
“Vice-president elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton: An American Musical. We really do.”
“We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents — or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir.”
“But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us.”
“We truly thank you for sharing this show — this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds, and orientations.”
Of course, Donald Trump ignored the respectful and well articulated plea and instead chose to accuse everybody of harassing his Vice President. His multiple twitter posts read:
“The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”
“Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!”
Fortunately, Dixon called Trump out in response, saying: “@realDonaldTrump conversation is not harassment sir. And I appreciate @mike_pence for stopping to listen.”
