Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams has realized that she needs help and is taking the proper steps towards getting it. The singer announced on her Instagram account that after struggling with depression for a very long time, she has finally checked in to a mental health center.
‘Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who’ll continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need,’ Williams told her fans on Instagram.
TMZ has confirmed that she is receiving help at a facility outside L.A.
As fans may be aware, this is not the first time the celeb is opening up about her mental health problems.
Last year in October, she stopped by The Talk to reveal that despite being at the peak of her career, she was still dealing with a lot of unexplained sadness.
She wondered how she could be unhappy while part of ‘one of the top-selling female groups of all time.’
As a result, she reached out to her manager at the time, Matthew Knowles who apparently could not understand her depression either.
‘When I disclosed it to our manager, bless his heart, he was like, ‘You all just signed a multi-million dollar deal. You are about to go on tour. What do you have to be depressed about?’’
In reality, just like the entertainer, many don’t understand that depression is a mental illness and has no real correlation to what others perceive as a lack of success, money or any other thing that is usually associated with a happy life.
That is why it’s so dangerous, so we are glad the star decided to seek help.
