Yesterday was a special day for Serena Williams. The tennis ace captured a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title after beating her sister Venus in straight sets. She broke a tie with Steffi Graff for the most Grand Slams in the open Era in the process. The champ received another special gift yesterday, but this time from one GOAT to another.
Micheal Jordan sent the 35-year-old a congratulatory letter and two pairs of custom 23 Jordans following her 6-4, 6-4 win. Jordan wore the No. 23 during his glittering career in the NBA, so it was fitting that he sent them.
One pair of the Jordans came in black and red (the colors of the Chicago Bulls) and the other in pink, which is Serena’s favourite color. Both Jordans also had 23 emblazoned on them.
The ESPN hosts passed along the massive white box in which Jordan’s gift were during a post-match interview with the newly crowned GOAT in tennis history.
Serena opened the box, then proceeded to read the letter out loud. In the letter Jordan congratulated Serena on her winning mentality, which he said is hard to maintain, and said it will be a privilege to keep watching her as she remains determined in the court.
Serena was lost for words, thanking the GOAT multiple times and saying that the gifts were awesome. She couldn’t believe she was saying thank you to the GOAT himself.
Serena didn’t waste anytime putting on the red and black Jordans, as she was wearing them when it came time for the ceremony in the Rod Laver Arena!
