Last night, Meryl Streep added another prestigious award to her already huge collection.
The actress received the Cecil B. DeMille award at the 2017 Golden Globes!
After Viola Davis introduced the legend wittily montage of the actress’ biggest roles over the last four decades was shown. Afterwards, the things took an even more entertaining turn when Streep started her speech and she decided to throw some shade at the President elect Donald Trump and his controversial ways.
During her speech she joked about the fact that the Trump administration has vilified the Hollywood Foreign Press Association then went on to name his presidential campaign the worst performance of the year!
Without naming Trump directly she reminded people of his choice to make fun of a disabled journalist at a campaign rally. His disrespect was uncalled for and the kind of thing people with power especially should never do.
“It kind of broke my heart,” Streep said.
“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life.”
“Because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.”
“When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose,” she stated.
Of course, as expected, it didn’t take much for Trump to fire back at the esteemed actress.
The president tweeted: “Meryl Streep, one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes.”
OMG, cry me a river!
“She is a Hillary flunky who lost big,” he added.
He also explained that he never actually mocked any disabled person.
“For the 100th time, I never ‘mocked’ a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him ‘groveling’ when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”
Let’s not forget that the actress also referred to Donald Trump’s rigid stance on immigration stating: “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if you kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”
