Reportedly, Megyn Kelly reached out to the Real Housewives star, Luann de Lesseps, following the incident that led to Kelly’s firing from NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today.
As it was previously reported, Megyn discussed blackface Halloween costumes in an inflammatory way, leading to her elimination from the company.
Incidentally, Megyn reached out to the star of Real Housewives Of New York City, 53, to apologize personally. Megyn accidentally dragged Luann into the situation.
Kelly referred to Luann’s Diana Ross costume in 2017 when she spoke on the black-face question. However, Luann apparently didn’t care that much about the controversy and told Megyn that it wasn’t a big deal to her. Regardless, Megyn just wanted to clear the air and make sure there was no bad blood.
Previously, Megyn Kelly lost her job on the 26th of October, Friday. NBC released a statement saying that the show would no longer go on the air, and it was later revealed by insiders that NBC merely wanted her out, and was using this instance as an excuse.
Megyn said that when she was a kid, it was ok to wear blackface or white face, as long as you were a character of some kind. Regarding her costume in April, De Lesseps said that she was horrified while on the Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen show.
Luann said that she never meant to offend anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings. It was more of a tribute to Diana Ross. Moreover, De Lesseps said she wasn’t even in blackface, to begin with; she just had bronzer on.
Another star to face punishment and controversy is the professional snowboarder, Shaun White, who was dressed up as the Simple Jack character from Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder. Shaun later had to say sorry to special needs organizations including the Special Olympics.
Additionally, Ben addressed the situation the following day, saying that he apologized and stood by his movie when it first came out in 2008 and stands by it now. While some people hated the film, it has since gone down in comedic history as a cult-comedy.
