A picture can create so much drama, that is the lesson Meghan Markle’s Suits co-star and friend, Patrick J. Adams, has learned.
Poor Adams, on August 4, he took to Instagram to wish Markle a happy 36th birthday.
He did so by posting a photo where Prince Harry’s future wife is kissing him on the cheek.
He captioned the photo: “Ross and Rachel – the next generation.”
He was talking about the characters, Mike Ross portrayed by Adams and Rachel Zane who is played by Markle.
Very quickly, the selfie went viral, and the comments were crazy and brutal.
Many people wanted to know if the actress was cheating on Harry?
Others claimed Adams was disrespectful to the British royal family.
Overwhelmed by the comments, not only did Adams delete the photo, he shut down his Instagram account.
He said no one told him to remove the picture and added: “I posted this old photo I had found of Meghan, and I on set. I went to bed, and woke up in the morning and realized, “Oh, yeah. I live in a world where you cannot post things about Meghan.”
He went on to share: “I had this onslaught of people retweeting the thing, people thinking it was a recent picture, and I just thought, “What the hell is going on?”‘
He confessed that he has nothing but respect for Markle and they have no romantic links.
The popular actor shared: “It was such an innocent moment of sentimentality that was twisted into something totally different. It made me feel like… why put myself through this? We are like brother and sister, it’s not like it was lurid or anything, but it just became a story that people wanted to talk about.”
He concluded by saying: “I’m not good at it, I overthink every post that I put out and the ramifications and who’ll be listening and how it’ll be received.”
Harry and Markle are expected to announce their engagement before the end of the year.
