Being a part of the royal family has its perks, but scoring free clothes doesn’t come with the territory. With her royal wedding only a few months away, Meghan Markle has a lot of style rules to learn as she prepares to the knot with Prince Harry. This includes not accepting free clothing, even when it comes from the world’s top designers.
According to Bravo TV, the royal family has strict rules against accepting free clothes. That means the former Suits star has to pay for all of her designer clothes, no matter how much they cost.
For example, Markle wore a $1,000 white jacket last week from Amanda Wakely’s lineup, and the coat wasn’t a gift. Fortunately, Markle’s new family is pretty wealthy and won’t hesitate in fitting the bill.
In fact, after she officially becomes a member of the royal family, Markle’s wardrobe expenses will be paid for by a special fund that Prince Charles set up for the family.
Tonight, Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle were honoured to meet wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have overcome adversity and taken on remarkable sport and adventure challenges, at the annual #EndeavourAwards The Endeavour Fund gives these people the opportunity to rediscover their self-belief and fighting spirit through physical challenges, and is led by the Royal Foundation. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees for their incredible feats.
Even if Markle wasn’t marrying Harry, the actress probably wouldn’t have trouble paying for her expensive style. Markle took home around $50,000 for each episode of Suits and is estimated to be worth millions of dollars.
Although Markle has to pay for her clothes, she does get a lot of help picking outfits. The former Suits star reportedly has a team of people that help her put together outfits from designers around the world. Once the pieces arrive on Markle’s doorstep, she tries them on, keeps what’s she likes and sends the rest back.
But about her wedding gown?
We still don’t know how much Markle will end up paying for her wedding gown, but the dress will be paid for by Prince Charles’ fund, which maxed out at close to $5 million last year. Markle wore a $78,000 gown for her engagement photos, so it’s a safe bet that her wedding gown will top the six-figure mark.
Harry’s fortune is estimated to be around $25 million. He inherited most of his wealth from his mom, Princess Diana, who died back in 1997.
Harry and his brother, Prince William, were given a $20 million inheritance from Diana, along with her personal collection of jewels. Harry and William were not allowed to access the inheritance until they reached 30.
As far as Markle is concerned, experts believe that her style has evolved over the past few months. In getting more in line with the royal family’s style guidelines, Markle’s look has become more sophisticated and now features longer hemlines.
Although Markle has cleaned up her look, she still knows how to get ready for the perfect photo op.
“She can pull off a really dressed down look just as well as she can pull off a formal gown. I think people just love seeing the diversity of her fashion choices,” designer Bojana Sentaler explained.
Meghan Markle will marry Prince Harry on May 19 in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
