The new Duchess of Sussex is very proud to describe herself as a feminist! Just hours following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, the former Suits star got her own page on the royal family’s website, royal.uk.
But while the description does not mention her acting background, it does inform us that Markle has said this before: ‘I am proud to be a woman and a feminist.’
And sure enough, during the royal wedding, Megan made it very clear that she’ll be doing things differently by walking down the aisle on her own and more.
The royal bio describes Meghan as a strong, independent woman who has always been keep to helping others in need.
‘From a young age, The Duchess had a keen awareness of social issues and actively participated in charitable work. At age 11 she successfully campaigned for a company to alter their television advert which had used sexist language to sell washing-up liquid. Her Royal Highness volunteered at a soup kitchen in Skid Row as well, from the age of 13 to 17. She continued to volunteer there when she would return home to Los Angeles until the age of 22.’
‘These early experiences helped shape her lifelong commitment to causes such as social justice and women’s empowerment.’
Furthermore, ‘during her time in Toronto, she ‘actively volunteered at a Canadian soup kitchen from 2011-2013.’
The bio does not mention her TV show, Suits but reads: ‘She also established a program at her place of work to make sure that all leftover meals from the set were donated to local homeless shelters. In 2015, The Duchess became the UN Women’s Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership.’
‘In addition to her role with UN Women and One Young World, Her Royal Highness also became a Global Ambassador for World Vision back in 2016. As part of her work with the charity, she visited Rwanda on a clean-water campaign that would work to allow children to continue their education,’ proceeded the biography.
Finally, last year, she ‘undertook a second learning mission with the organization when she visited India with World Vision to bring awareness to girls’ lack of access to education.’
It’s pretty clear that her beauty was not the only thing Prince Harry fell for!
