As a Hollywood actress, Meghan Markle had a lot of fun showing off her incredible style – both at public appearances and on the red carpet – that featured both trendy and classic looks. There were no limits to what she could wear, and that gave her the opportunity to be daring with some of her fashion choices. But, now that she is a member of the Royal family, the Duchess of Sussex can no longer wear anything she wants. And a new report claims that the palace has banned her from wearing pants during her next Royal tour – and her husband could be to blame.
For a special event during her upcoming tour of Australia, Markle wanted to wear a fashion-forward tuxedo suit from Stella McCartney. But Prince Harry – acting as her “surprise stylist” – vetoed the outfit.
“Meghan is being told she needs to stop dressing like a Hollywood star and start dressing like a royal. Meghan wanted to wear a tuxedo-style suit, but Harry said it wasn’t traditional enough,” an insider revealed to The Daily Mail. “The style is said to be barely tolerated by royal aides, who want her to stick to the traditional demure skirts and opaque tights.”
Markle has not been afraid to wear pants to Royal events since she and Harry announced their engagement in November of last year. Some fans even see many similarities to Princess Diana, who opted for a menswear tuxedo multiple times, including when she attended a Genesis concert in Birmingham, England in February of 1984.
Kate Middleton avoids pants completely, unless she is playing sports or attending a casual event. But, during an official Royal appearance, she always wears appropriate dresses or skirts and tops and does not take the fashion risks that her sister-in-law does.
Some insiders say that Markle has had a difficult time with some of the Royal rules, saying they are “difficult to understand.” The fact that Queen Elizabeth prefers the women in the family to wear dresses or skirts instead of pants causes Markle to ask her husband why she must do things this way. The source adds that it can be frustrating for the Duchess, but she has to deal with hit.
However, even though there are rules that Markle doesn’t necessarily agree with, she still loves relying on her husband for his expert royal fashion advice. He often accompanies her to fittings, and the Stella McCartney special projects team is working on more outfits for Markle.
Prince Harry is definitely playing a big role in Meghan Markle’s fashion evolution, and it will be interesting to see what she wears next.
