Geraldo Rivera is in trouble once again, except this time, through his familial connections rather than his own actions. In a report from the New York Post, the 30-year-old son of Geraldo, Cruz Rivera, allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and choked and hit her until she “nearly fainted.”
The publication claims that the incident took place on the 2nd of May in his New York City apartment. Meghan Burke stopped by his place after they broke up to pick up some of her personal items.
If the reports are true, Cruz threw her on the bed after they got into an argument and he “pinned her down in a chokehold” until she nearly fainted.
After Meghan got home, her roommate saw the damage done and called the police. During the fight, Cruz supposedly bit her right hand and legs as she attempted to break free from his stronghold.
Cruz went to jail after the police arrested him and was released the very next day following a court hearing in Manhattan. Arthur Aidala, Geraldo’s attorney-at-law, said that Geraldo is “very upset” about the incident.
Aidala explained that obviously everyone in the family is super unhappy about the allegations of domestic violence because nobody takes such an incident lightly.
Additionally, Cruz’s ex-girlfriend supposedly sent him “I love you” text messages and said she was “sorry about all of this.” Moreover, she doesn’t want to press charges against him.
As you may know, this isn’t the first time the Rivera family has gotten into trouble with the ladies. Bette Midler accused Geraldo of groping her back in the 1990’s and demanded a public apology.
