‘Mayans MC’ Drops New Promo, Meet Clayton Cardenas’ Angel In The ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spin-Off

We are officially a month away from the premiere of Kurt Sutter’s newest series, Mayans MC. With the first season almost here, the show just released a new promo that features Clayton Cardenas’ Angel Reyes. What else do we know about the Sons of Anarchy spin-off?
The short clip, which was posted on the Mayans MC Twitter page, features Cardenas displaying his character’s Mayans tattoo on his forearm. The series added, “Anything for the club,” alongside the promo. Angel Reyes is the older sibling of the show’s lead character, Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, played by JD Pardo.

This is not the first promo to offer a look at one of the characters on Mayans MC. According to Pop Culture, the series has been sharing a slew of similar videos over the past week, including shots of Danny Pino, who plays Miguel Galindo, Michael Irby, who portrays Obispo “Bishop” Losa, Pardo, and Carla Baratta, who will appear as Adelita.
The series also features Edward James Olmos as the father of EZ and Angel. As far as Sons of Anarchy alum are concerned, we know for sure that Emilio Rivera will be back in action as Marcus Alvarez, the head of the gang’s Oakland charter.
We also know that Katey Sagal is reprising her role as Gemma Teller in a flashback, which opens up all kinds of possibilities for future cameos.
Speaking of cameos, Sutter recently talked about transitioning from Sons to Mayans MC and what that will look like in Season 1. Sutter explained how his main goal is to begin a new story while honoring the mythology that was told in the original series. The only catch is that he does not want the series to devolve into “a Latino version” of Sons.
“We want to acknowledge where we came from and those fans and balance that with a show that’s original and different…,” Sutter explained in a recent interview.
With that in mind, the show will follow EZ’s journey as a prospect in the club who is looking to create a new outlaw identity for himself.
Chronologically, the series takes place some three years after the events in Sons of Anarchy, which ended with Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) ultimate demise. The opening episode of the spin-off is called “Perro/Oc,” and will introduce Pardo’s character in full.
Season 1 of Mayans MC is scheduled to premiere Sept. 4 on FX.
