Kurt Sutter just teased fans with another behind the scenes look at his newest show, Mayans MC. The Sons of Anarchy creator posted a photo of several members of the Mayans club, which generated a lot of buzz from SOA fans around the world. We’re still a few months away from the premiere of the new show, but what are the chances that Charlie Hunnam reprises his role as Jax Teller for one last cameo?
The on-set photo offered a good look at some of the new cast members that will appear on the Sons of Anarchy spin-off. This includes the lead of the series, JD Pardo, along with supporting cast members Michael Irby, Clayton Cardenas and Richard Cabral. Sutter did not offer any context around the photo, so we’re not really sure what they are doing.
FX has not announced an official premiere date for Mayans MC. The series is expected to debut sometime this fall and will feature 10 episodes. Given Sutter’s success on the network, there is a good chance that the spin-off gets renewed beyond its first year.
Sutter recently released a short teaser video for Mayans MC as well. The clip shows a bunch of Mayans MC members riding down a highway lined with red roses. With “Paint it Black” playing in the background, the roses turn from red to black as the motorcycles gang passes.
Mayans MC is set after the events in Sons of Anarchy. The story follows a prospect in the Mayans MC named EZ Reyes (Pardo), who is looking to establish a new identity for himself within the outlaw community.
The series also stars Edward James Olmos, Antonio Jaramillo, Sarah Bolger, Raoul Trujillo, and Carla Baratta. Sons of Anarchy alum Emilio Rivera is also expected to return as Mayans MC President Marcus Alvarez.
As far as Hunnam is concerned, it isn’t likely that he’ll reprise his role as Jax Teller given how Mayans MC takes place after Jax’s death. He could, however, appear in a flash back of some sort, though Sutter has not said anything about bringing Jax back.
Last year, Hunnam opened up about the spin-off and admitted that he’s excited to see what Sutter comes up with. He also sounded willing to return as Jax, as long as Sutter could fit his character into the story somehow.
Mayans MC is expected to premiere on FX this fall.
