Apparently, despite the fact that he was involved in a shameful sexual harassment scandal that led to his firing from NBC, Matt Lauer is still planning to come back on TV. In fact, the man himself announced his fans that they will be able to see him again soon on the small screen.
Page Six reports that Lauer was spotted at Donohue’s Steakhouse not too long ago when a ‘group of older ladies’ recognized him.
‘We miss you,’ they supposedly told him.
One eyewitness tells the news outlet that Lauer informed the group of fans that he’s ‘been busy being a dad. But don’t worry, I’ll be back on TV.’
But that’s not all! While the TV personality did not mention when his return would happen, or where exactly, he was having lunch with a former Today senior producer in June, and that is when the rumors of his comeback were sparked.
You may remember that Matt was shockingly accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women at NBC and ended up being let go by the network as a result.
The claims include sending inappropriate texts to co-workers, showing his genitalia to a co-worker, giving a co-worker a sex toy and telling her how he’d use it on her.
Lauer was also accused of sexual assault in his office in 2001.
The man has admitted he acted inappropriately at the time but denied he displayed any ‘coercive behavior.’
So what do people think about his reported return to grace?
Elizabeth Velez, a professor of gender and women’s studies, shared with Huffington Post that stories of ‘redemption’ like his are ‘typical of male entitlement, of men — particularly wealthy, powerful men — who say, ‘OK, I’ve suffered enough. That’s enough. I did what I did, and I’m really sorry, and I went for treatment, and now it’s time for me to do the work that I was doing.’ It’s typical patriarchy at work.’
