It has been close to five months since Matt Lauer last appeared on NBC’s Today show — and now the disgraced anchor is ready to make amends and return to television. Insiders close to Lauer claim that he feels a lot of regret about how his career ended and wants to do everything in his power to make things right. Will Lauer make a comeback?
Lauer was fired towards the end of November after several women came forward and claimed that he sexually harassed them at work. One former staffer also accused the Today anchor of making sexual advances during the 2014 Winter Olympics, which were held in Sochi.
Once NBC caught wind of the accusations, they immediately terminated Lauer, who had been working at the network for over 20 years. Lauer was eventually replaced by his good friend Hoda Kotb.

Lauer released an official apology shortly after the sexual misconduct scandal hit the news. Lauer expressed the deepest regret for his actions and apologized to his victims in the statement.
Since then, Lauer has been laying low in the Hamptons, though inside sources told People that he’s already planning on mounting a comeback.
“He wants to make up for anything he has done to hurt people,” the source explained.
We don’t know how Lauer plans on returning to television, but the source revealed that his life has been upended since the scandal. Weeks after getting fired from NBC, Lauer struggled to cope with the situation.
Close friends and former colleagues revealed that he was deeply ashamed by what happened and couldn’t believe that his career ended so abruptly. Lauer apparently felt like he was invincible and did not think a sexual misconduct scandal would be the thing that took him down.

As far as Lauer’s former colleagues are concerned, they were equally shocked when they learned about his actions. In fact, a lot of the staffers inside NBC’s Rockefeller Center were saddened by the news of Lauer’s termination and could not reconcile the person they knew with his deviant behavior. At the end of the day, many of Lauer’s colleagues adored him and thought he treated everyone with kindness and respect.
To make matters worse, Lauer is also dealing with a rocky marriage. Insiders say that Lauer is on the verge of a divorce with his wife Annette Roque, whom he married back in 1998.
Matt Lauer has not commented on the rumors surrounding a potential comeback.
