Matt Lauer has seen better days. The disgraced Today host was just spotted in the Hamptons looking as miserable as ever as he prepares for what could be a costly divorce with his wife, Annette Roque.
Lauer was seen pumping gas near his mansion in the Hamptons. The former host tried to keep a low profile wearing a baseball hat and large sunglasses but failed to evade the cameras. Lauer has been shacking up in the guest house of his estate while he recovers from the sexual misconduct scandal that ruined his career.
Lauer’s wife is still living in the main house with their three children. Their marriage has been on thin ice ever since the sexual misconduct scandal broke and Lauer might have to give away a large portion of his fortune in the event of a divorce.
Lauer brought home well over $100 million during his tenure with NBC, which could mean a big payday for Roque if she files for divorce.
But will Roque finally call it quits?
Inside sources recently revealed that Lauer’s sexual harassment scandal was the final straw for Roque. Sources claim that the marriage cannot be salvaged, and that Roque is determined to part ways after being married for 20 years. Roque hasn’t confirmed the rumors, but this isn’t the first time she’s thought about ending her union.
Back in 2006, Roque signed a divorce petition because of Lauer’s “cruel and inhumane” behavior towards her. Three weeks after filing the divorce, Roque changed her mind and withdrew her request.
Insiders claim that she almost filed again in 2014 and was on the market for a good divorce lawyer. If Roque finally goes through with the divorce this time around, then it’s possible that she gets around 50 percent of Lauer’s fortune. Either way, the couple will likely keep the split under the radar for as long as possible.
“They’ll do everything quietly. My guess is she will get the Hamptons house and a chunk of cash, but no spousal support. He will pay child support,” celebrity attorney Judith Poller explained.
Lauer and Roque have not commented on the status of their marriage. The pair recently put their house in Sag Harbor on the market for over $12 million. They also put up a townhouse in New York City valued at around $7 million.
While we wait to learn more, Matt Lauer is reportedly seeking to revive his career and has been meeting with several networks to find a new show.
