Despite a recent outing with his estranged wife, Matt Lauer is laying low and focusing on his family claim friends of the disgraced former Today Show host. Lauer, a former mainstay on the Hampton’s social scene, has been staying home and only going out if it is for his kids.
“Matt doesn’t really socialize much with his friends anymore,” a source told People “He’s been staying close to home and focusing all his energy on the kids. If he does go out, it’s for them.”
Lauer and Roque are still ironing out the details of their divorce, but they made an appearance together at the Hampton Classic, which is one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the United States.

According to The Daily Mail, Lauer and Roque did not show any physical affection, but they did appear to be friendly during the low-key appearance while they both wore hats and sunglasses. The couple has been married since 1998, and they have attended the Hampton Classic together for a number of years.
Despite their split, they are still co-parenting their three children — Jack, 17, Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11 — and they will reportedly be sharing custody when the divorce is final.
During the weekend event, the former couple took turns taking care of their dog, met up with friends, and ate hot dogs while enjoying the sunny weather.
Lauer’s sexual misconduct scandal late last year led to the couple’s divorce, and they are said to have an estranged relationship. But, he apparently felt so guilty about his infidelity that he is giving Roque everything she wants in the divorce, including an extra $20 million.
As they work out the final divorce details, they have continued to share their 12-bedroom home in the Hamptons.
“Things really have settled down. Matt and Annette are getting on, and they’re both spending time with their kids. They hope to settle the divorce very soon,” said an insider.
This isn’t the first time that Roque has filed for divorce. She knew about Lauer’s infidelities as far back as 2006 when she filed citing “mental abuse, extreme mental and emotional distress, humiliation, torment, and anxiety.”
But, just a couple of weeks after filing, she agreed to pull it and stay in the marriage because he offered to pay her millions in an annual allowance so he could maintain his family-friendly image. She also got a post-nup to make things easier if she decided to divorce Lauer again, this included her getting a share of the value of their homes.

Lauer recently sold his Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan for $7.35 million, and he also has a home in Sag Harbor currently on the market for $12.75 million, reduced from the original asking price of $18 million. However, he reportedly would like to keep the Hamptons estate, which he bought from Richard Gere in 2016 for $36.5 million.
He also owns property in New Zealand called Hunter Valley Station that he purchased in 2017 for $9.2 million, but the drama surrounding his land led to the New Zealand government voting last week to bar most non-citizens from investing in property. Matt Lauer has faced accusations of denying public access to a public wilderness area that is only reachable by crossing his property.
