Nearly a year after NBC fired him over allegations of sexual misconduct, insiders say that disgraced former Today Show anchor Matt Lauer is ready to “take-down” the ones who “unfairly persecuted him.” Lauer wants a comeback, and he refuses to back down on those plans.
Sources say that Lauer is going after people who are still in power. He wants payback, and “no one will be safe.”
“There are going to be some management changes at NBC News,” says an insider, “and once that happens, Matt will have his chance to redeem himself on-air and have his revenge on those who looped him with the #MeToo era’s worst scoundrels.”

The insider added that Lauer is “chomping at the bit” to get back on television, and he isn’t going to retire. Even though he has issued a statement of apology, he wants to tell audiences his side of the story — that he isn’t a sexual assaulter.
According to Radar Online, Lauer also wants to make it clear that authorities aren’t investigating him for any crimes, and every activity he engaged in was consensual. NBC did conduct their own investigation after they terminated Lauer, and in May the network released a statement about their conclusions.
They said that they found no evidence that anyone in a position of leadership at NBC, including those at NBC News or the Today Show, received any complaints about Lauer’s behavior in the workplace before November 27, 2017.
Since his firing, Lauer has kept a low profile, and sources say that he doesn’t socialize much with friends anymore. Instead, he has been staying home and focusing his energy on his three kids. And, if he does go out in public, it is for them.

Lauer and his estranged wife, Annette Roque, are still hammering out the details of their divorce, but they continue to live together at their Hamptons home with their kids Jack, 17, Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11. They are working on the division of assets, says an insider, and it shouldn’t be long until the divorce is final.
This isn’t the first time that Roque has filed for divorce from Lauer. Back in 2006, she filed because of “cruel and inhumane” behavior. However, she withdrew her petition a few weeks later. Then, in 2014, she was also rumored to be looking for a divorce lawyer, says a legal source. But now, it looks like Matt Lauer and Annette Roque are splitting up for good.
