As his divorce proceedings move forward, disgraced former Today Show anchor Matt Lauer is reportedly in “bad shape” and is isolating himself in the Hamptons. Nearly five months after NBC fired him because of allegations of sexual misconduct, Lauer is devastated and wants to make up for the things he has done to hurt people. But, it’s apparently too late for his relationship with Annette Roque, and the couple rarely speaks as the end of their marriage nears.
“He looks exhausted. Matt is finally coming to terms with the reality that his marriage is over and he is in bad shape. He feels he lost everything important in his life overnight. He is embarrassed and ashamed,” says an insider.
Multiple sources report that the 60-year-old has been living a private life in the Hamptons, and earlier this month he put his 11-bedroom Manhattan apartment on the market. Sources say that Lauer has cut himself off from the life he had in New York City.

Lauer held out hope that he and Roque could work things out, but at this point, there is no chance of that happening, and she has reportedly met with divorce attorneys.
Even though he feels like he lost everything overnight, Roque’s friends say that this has been building for years. And, now that the truth about Lauer has come out, the couple only speaks when they are trying to negotiate divorce details.
Understandably, Roque is angry and feels that her husband has embarrassed the family, and his behavior affected a lot of people. She plans on getting a big settlement in the divorce, and she wants to make sure that she and her three children – Jack, 16, Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11 – will be taken care of.
Lauer feels terrible and regrets his behavior, but it seems that all doors have closed for him. His former co-workers, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, recently revealed that they both still talk to Lauer, and they say that his top priority is his family and work isn’t in the forefront of his mind.

Even though Lauer and Roque can’t fix their marriage, they both want what is best for their kids. So, the divorce proceedings are going slowly, and they are taking things “day-by-day” and not making any long-term decisions at the moment.
Matt Lauer no longer lives with Roque and the kids in their Hampton home, and he instead lives on a nearby property. The couple is leading separate lives as their marriage comes to an end.
