It is over — the so-called friendship that existed between Matt Lauer and his former colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb has come to an end.
Believe it or not, it was just a few weeks ago that Guthrie was holding Kotb’s hand as she read the news to the world.
Her very good friend and co-host, Lauer, was fired from TODAY after several women came forward and revealed that the TV personality sexually assaulted them.
An emotional Guthrie showed support for the victims while claiming that Lauer is still a friend she loves. Those days are over.
A source spoke to Life and Style and revealed that the two women no longer talk to Lauer.
The source took it a step further by saying that they are relieved that Lauer is gone. It appears that they never really liked him.
They found that he made the atmosphere heavy, it was tough to be around him because he was very demanding and controlling.
It is being claimed that the two female co-chairs are getting along very well and they plan to continue hosting the morning show together.
An insider said the scandal helped them bond and added: “Savannah and Hoda never thought that they would be this close, but they have bonded over Matt’s betrayal and departure. Matt’s downfall has forged a deeper friendship between the two.”
The person in the know, who works for NBC, revealed: “There’s been a lot of pressure on them. Savannah says Hoda has been her rock, basically helping her stay sane during a crazy time.”
The tipster went on to say that staff members at the Peacock Network all agree that Lauer had to leave after the disturbing allegations made against him and no one will miss him.
The source explained: “Matt had to go. Savannah and Hoda are better friends because of it — and their show is doing better than it was before. Privately, they are proud of the success. The atmosphere on set without Matt is a lot lighter — people feel like they can breathe. Now, it is a friendlier feeling. No one is walking on eggshells.”
According to the publication, Guthrie and Kotb no longer feel sorry for Lauer after seeing the mountain of evidence against him.
The source shared: “Going forward, they are no longer initiating communication. It is just tricky. They have fond feelings toward Matt, but they now know [about his inappropriate behavior.’ As women, that is hard to reconcile.”
