Matt Damon’s father, Kent Damon, passed away nearly two weeks ago according to a report from Us Weekly. The father of the legendary actor died after a long battle with cancer. Kent passed away on the 14th of December from multiple myeloma, cancer which strikes at the bone marrow.
The 47-year-old actor asked for prayers from his fans as well as the people whom with he works while speaking with reporters for Extra. He said, “we’ll take any prayers that you got.”
Reportedly, Damon skipped several ceremonies and events to spend time with his ailing father in Boston. Back in October, he didn’t go to the BAFTA Britannia Awards where the organization intended to present to him the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence.
During an event in 2011 – a benefit for the Massachusetts General Hospital – Damon revealed that his father was battling the illness. Matt said he would fight it until the end.
Furthermore, during the One Hundred Celebration in the same city, the Good Will Hunting star thanked the medical staff for their help and commented on the tragic loss suffered by many people due to cancer.
Damon said he never would’ve thought his dad would get cancer considering his history as a marathon runner – hinting at the idea that his father was an athlete so he must’ve been in good health.
A report from the Boston Globe noted Damon had been very active in fundraisers for cancer survivors. He has hosted several events in support of those who have cancer or those who fight it today.
The death of Kent comes at a particularly troublesome time for Matt, who recently was criticized heavily by many in the mainstream media as well as Hollywood for his common-sense remarks regarding sexual misconduct in Hollywood.
