The star of NCIS, Mark Harmon, leads a famously private life, and his fans are aware of that. It’s a tough life for celebrities who are continually fighting for their right to privacy. With our increasingly interconnected world, it’s incredibly challenging to keep one’s identity secure.
However, Mark Harmon revealed a big part of his strategy to avoid attention is simple. He merely avoids social media. And that makes a lot of sense, considering the sort of disasters brought about by using social media platforms too much.
Ask Roseanne Barr. ABC announced they would ax her television series after her incredibly offensive tweets comparing a former worker under Barack Obama to “Planet Of The Apes” and the “Muslim Brotherhood.”
Her use of the term, “ape,” was the part of her insult which garnered the most vociferous attention. Moreover, fans will remember when Kim Kardashian was robbed by burglars in Paris two years ago because she showed off her location and bling too much on Instagram and Twitter.
Nevertheless, Mark Harmon is the type of guy who learns from others mistakes. During an interview with Closer Weekly, the 66-year-old small-screen star dished on what it’s like to avoid the Hollywood spotlight.
He said, “it’s not even a choice. It’s who we are. We stay home. A lot. I’m not a Twitter guy or a Facebook guy.” Mark admitted in the interview that he is a very humble person and likes it that way.
He and his wife, Pam Dawber, have two children, Sean, and Ty, who are 30-years-old and 25-years-old respectively. And while Mark is good at hiding from the spotlight, Harmon actually comes from famous parents.
His dad was Tom Harmon, who used to be a sportscaster, and Elyse Knox, who was an actress in the 1940’s. Because of his background, Mark knew what it was like to be the center of attention.
And he grew to not like it, and actively avoided it. Mark said, “I had children, and I was like, ‘I’m not going to chase this fame thing.'” Previously, Mark admitted having kids played a huge role in his decision to not go after celebrity status. And when he was filming a movie back in the 1990’s, he missed his son’s first steps, a decision he seriously regretted.
