Mariah Carey made a mistake on Sunday night at the Golden Globes. Despite her reputation as a diva, Mariah was willing to admit that she made a simple error on the way back from the washroom while at the prestigious event.
The singer said that she accidentally found herself in the seat belonging to Meryl Streep, right beside the director, Steven Spielberg.
Mariah, 47, – who performed at the Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve hosted by Ryan Seacrest – tweeted from the Globes audience about her encounter with the Academy Award winner.
As you may know, Meryl was nominated, yet again, for Best Actress. According to Carey, she grabbed the closest empty seat that she could find before the commercial break ended, and lo-and-behold, Streep came back and asked for her seat back.
Carey said she “got caught mingling” on her way back to the “loo” during the commercial break. However, when she arrived to the seat, Steven Spielberg was sitting right there looking at her as if to say, “you’re not Meryl?”
She immediately knew it wasn’t her seat but had to sit there to avoid standing up during the ceremony.
Got caught mingling on the way to the loo during a commercial break.. took the first seat available, happens to be right next to Steven Spielberg ?? Cut to next commercial break, guess who comes back to her seat…

Despite the confusion, all is well, and Carey and Streep shared a few jokes about the situation. Streep said to her that Carey could “take her seat” anytime.
Fans on Twitter pointed to the sheer power of the star couple, considering both women are at the top of their game respectively.
Meryl is deemed to be one of the best actresses of all time, and Carey is almost 50 and is still performing shows to rave reviews. The Golden Globes were presented live by NBC from the Beverly Hilton in California on Sunday, and many are tuning in to hear stars talk about harassment in Hollywood.
